Every Eligible Player Without MLB Debut Patches In 2026 Topps Chrome Update

It has become a tradition for us here at Baseball America: Every year in early June, we publish a list of the players who might have Debut Patches in Topps Chrome Update later in the year. Basically, it’s a list we aggregate from players who meet one of two criteria:

  • Players who made their debuts between June 1 of the previous year and May 31 of the current year, as has been Topps’ qualification in the past, and
  • Players who debuted too late in the time frame for the previous year and therefore their patches couldn’t be put into that product in time.

Based on that information, our initial pool of potential players for Debut Patches in 2026 Topps Chrome Update contained 250 names. But when the checklist for the product dropped on Wednesday, the Debut Patch checklist contained only 198 names.

What happened to the rest?

Perhaps the most interesting omission is Payton Tolle, who debuted for the Red Sox in August 2025. Fans looking for the patch during his start that day were puzzled when it did not appear on his sleeve. It was later reported that it had fallen off between his warm-ups and the actual game itself.

But Tolle is just one instance. There are still 51 more players from our original list who are not on the just-released checklist. That leaves roughly one in five names unavailable to collectors.

Of those names:

  • Roughly 40 debuted in May 2026, which might have just been too late for the production cycle this time around. That said, there are a number of players who debuted that month on the 2026 checklist, including four different Marlins.
  • Nine actually debuted in time for last year’s Chrome Update, so they might just never have a patch at this point for whatever reason.
  • One made his debut after the usual Topps window: Jase Bowen of the Padres, who debuted on June 2, 2026.

It’s also entirely possible that the checklist is not yet complete. The initial version of the checklist did not include Chase deLauter, who famously first wore his Debut Patch during a playoff game. After Baseball America checked with Topps, a representative confirmed that his omission was an oversight and deLauter’s patch will be in the product.

BA has asked Topps for any additional details on the omissions, and we will pass along information if and when we receive it.

In the meantime, not counting Bowen, here are the 51 names eligible within the usual Debut Patch guidelines who made our earlier list but not the actual Topps Chrome Update checklist:
