Update, Nov. 2: Story has been updated with information available during the preorder, including the scheduled release date of Dec. 9 and the Topps website pricing of $449.99 for jumbo boxes, $239.99 for hobby boxes, $69.99 for mega boxes and $39.99 for value boxes.
Sixteen hundred bucks per box.
That was the price on the Topps website at which the “First Day Issue” jumbo boxes of 2026 Chrome Update, featuring a bonus “Molten Mercury” autograph numbered to 20 and two bonus hits numbered to 13, sold out.
And some collectors paid even more than that. Baseball America can confirm that collectors paid as much as $2,000 per box in the Dutch auction for the inaugural First Day Issue version of the product.
Even though the initial prices for standard jumbo boxes were $450, with hobby boxes at $230, the mega-popularity of the First Day Issue boxes shows that Chrome Update is already becoming the highest-end offering of what is arguably Topps’ most popular product.
In fact, ever since the introduction of the MLB Debut Patch autographs in 2023, Chrome Update has leapfrogged the July release of Topps Chrome as the most anticipated flagship release on the calendar.
With the full checklist having just dropped—featuring possibly the most star-studded Debut Patch field yet—and the scheduled release date of Wednesday, Dec. 9, on the horizon, let’s dive in and see what’s in store for the 2026 version of Topps Chrome Update.
MLB Debut Patch Autographs
With two million-dollar sales already on record (Paul Skenes and Pete Crow-Armstrong) and many others routinely selling for five and even six figures, the mania over MLB Debut Patches has only grown as the set has matured. While the checklist annually features copious amounts of relievers and cup-of-coffee-type big leaguers (because it has to), per sales history, it really is a Wonka-esque chase for the higher-end names in the set.

This class is once again loaded. Names featured include Cam Schlittler, Jacob Misiorowski, Konnor Griffin, Kevin McGonigle, JJ Wetherholt, Bryce Eldridge, Chase DeLauter, Roman Anthony and more. There are 198 names on this year’s checklist, which is fewer than the past two years, but it’s still loaded with stars.
We’re tracking Debut Patch pulls here and you can find the list of 2026-eligible players who didn’t make the checklist here.
New Variations, Mickey & Friends & Inserts
Chrome Update has the usual bag of tricks up its sleeve with insert sets like Celebración, Helix, Image Variations and Alter Ego Super Heroes returning. Dropped from the product for 2026 are Sapphire Selections, Fortune 15, Night Terrors, Power Players and Home Field Advantage.
One new insert is Diamond Impact, pictured below.

Variations and insert sets in 2026 Chrome Update are much more robust than 2025. Lightboard Logo variations have made their way from Chrome to Chrome Update for the first time and Cupfractors, Rookie Super Short Prints, and All-Star Game Super Short Prints all up the ante.
There is no shortage of additional insert checklists featuring rookies, established stars and legends. The Mickey & Friends Away Jersey checklist is especially notable given the rise in value of Topps Chrome Disney cards over the past year. Expect the 30-card checklist featuring Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy to be red hot as the calendar turns to November.
What I’m Hunting
All things Bryce Eldridge: While rookies Kevin McGonigle and Konnor Griffin are featured in over 25 different set lists across the product, Eldridge’s inclusion is limited to just 10 sets. I’ll be tracking down the true gold base and image variations to go with what I already have from Topps Chrome. While Eldridge’s name doesn’t carry the same weight as McGonigle or Griffin, he’s only 22 and proved his power and ability to hit across over 400 plate appearances for the Giants in 2026. People love collecting power, and Eldridge is as likely a candidate as any to put a lot of baseballs over the fence in the next decade.
Elly De La Cruz inserts: I feel like people forget that De La Cruz is only 24. He’s coming off a 30-30 season and is an alien toolshed as a 6-foot-6 shortstop who can run and get to power from both sides of the plate. I’m not unearthing an unknown here—this is about slowly compiling De La Cruz before he pops into the elite tier of baseball card collecting, which is imminent in my opinion. De La Cruz is featured in nine insert sets, and I’m particularly keen to get a look at his Helix insert. This will be his second appearance in this insert set (2024).
Babe Ruth in the new Glass Canvas insert set: I’m a sucker for a Babe Ruth card. While we don’t have images of the retail-exclusive Glass Canvas insert design yet, if it’s anything like the Topps Chrome Basketball design, it’s going to be sick. This checklist is awesome. Beyond Ruth, you’ve got other legends like Hank Aaron, Sandy Koufax, Willie Mays and Roberto Clemente, as well as current stars like De La Cruz, Aaron Judge and Shohei Ohtani and a collection of the top rookies led by Griffin and McGonigle. A retail exclusive, I’m excited to see what this set looks like.
Breaker Value & Teams To Target
Undoubtedly, Chrome Update will be a group breaker’s paradise once again as collectors pool resources in pursuit of Rookie Debut Patches. Here are a few teams that have outsized odds and interest in this year’s Chrome Update:
— Tier 1 —
Yankees: The Yankees are a solid get in group breaks on the back of Cam Schlittler’s Debut Patch chase, many Judge inserts and a slew of autographs from Yankees alumni, including Don Mattingly, Mariano Rivera, Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, Hideki Matsui, Jorge Posada, Paul O’Neill, Andy Pettitte and Robinson Cano. While the current big league roster may not have the same pedigree as teams past, Topps loaded up Chrome Update with intriguing inserts and autographs of past and current pinstripers.
— Tier 2 —
Guardians: Travis Bazzana and Chase DeLauter may be as good of a 1-2 position player rookie punch as there is in the product. Both will feature Rookie Debut Patch autos. Also look for Parker Messick, who may receive Cy Young Award votes after the campaign he just turned in. The rest of the checklist is just fair (the José Ramírez/Jim Thome dual auto is neat), but for rookie chasers, Bazzana/DeLauter/Messick is a fun trio to cast a wider net on.

Cardinals: The Cardinals feature seven MLB Debut Patches, but the player-quality falloff after JJ Wetherholt is pretty significant. If you’re buying in on the Cardinals, you love JJ Wetherholt and you love your Redbirds history. Larry Walker, Ozzie Smith, Willie McGee, Albert Pujols, Joe Torre, Steve Carlton, Jim Edmonds, Yadier Molina and Tony La Russa all signed for 2026 Chrome Update.
— Tier 3 —
White Sox: The White Sox feature 13 players in the MLB Debut Patches set, with Colson Montgomery, Sam Antonacci, Kyle Teel, and Munetaka Murakami leading the charge. While there is no true carrying player, the depth of quality with the White Sox is at or near the top of any team in Chrome Update. In addition to current young stars signing for the set, Frank Thomas, Paul Konerko, and Robin Ventura all gave their pens some work for this product. If you’re into Montgomery and Murakami, the White Sox are a solid value option.
Dodgers: Do I smell an opportunity here? The Dodgers have just four Debut Patch autos in the set, and none of them are particularly notable. Will that deter collectors buying into group breaks from going after the Dodger blue? Maybe? Future Hall of Famers Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betts, Ohtani and Clayton Kershaw join the likes of Hideo Nomo, Shawn Green, Mike Piazza and Gary Sheffield on a very deep autograph roster for this product.
Marlins: The Marlins join the White Sox in the “most likely to see a Debut Patch” bucket, as 13 Marlins grace the checklist led by… Jakob Marsee? It’s hard to say actually. This is a quantity-over-quality play.
Formats, Pricing & Where To Buy
Expect 2026 Topps Chrome Update to return across a variety of formats for collectors of all types, including Hobby, Jumbo, Breaker’s Delight and retail variations. We’ll know for sure what all is available come the preorder, but for the time being, it’s probably safe to assume formats will mirror previous years.
First Day Issue Box: The pricey addition to the 2026 lineup is in a single jumbo box format that features a bonus “Molten Mercury” auto numbered to 20 (pictured below) and two “Molten Mercury” parallels numbered to 13. The box itself will feature 12 packs with 11 cards each, same as a usual jumbo box.

Hobby Box: Each hobby box features 24 packs with four cards per pack and will have, on average, one autograph. The preorder price on the Topps website was $239.99.
Jumbo Box: Jumbo boxes feature 12 packs with 11 cards per pack and, on average, two autographs. That’s the same as 2026 Topps Chrome but a decrease from the three autographs in recent years. The preorder price on the Topps website was $449.99.
Breaker’s Delight: The Breaker’s Delight boxes (HTA choice) are for the collectors who want autographs and parallels without all of the filler. Each box should feature one pack with 10 cards and two guaranteed autographs. Also, expect six base refractors, a Youthquake insert and three other parallels to round out the box. All killer, no filler. Breaker’s Delight boxes for a product featuring a Debut Patch chase tend to start in the $500-$600 range and often jump north of $1,000 while the big chases are still out there.
Mega Box: Each mega box of Topps Chrome Update is likely to feature seven packs with four cards per pack. Each box will be chock full of exclusive parallels, likely guaranteed X-Fractors and Raywave parallels. The preorder price on the Topps website was $69.99.
Value boxes: The most cost-effective option will feature seven packs with four cards each. Topps is also expected to bring back the “Fanatics” version of the blasters for Chrome Update, which feature redemption cards good for autographed merchandise. These Fanatics blasters should be available for preorder on the Fanatics website and app a few weeks before Chrome Update is released. The preorder price on the Topps website for regular blasters was $39.99, with Fanatics blasters expected to be a bit more.
2026 Topps Chrome Update is scheduled to be released on Wednesday, Dec. 9. The First Day Issue version is scheduled to be released on Friday, Nov. 27.
