Topps Sets Nov. 2 Preorder Date for 2026 Chrome Update, MLB Debut Patch Chase

The hottest chase in the baseball card world has a preorder date: Monday, Nov. 2.

That’s the date the Topps website is promoting for collectors to get their first crack at Topps Chrome Update, which features this year’s slate of MLB Debut Patches. As always, all preorder and release dates are subject to change.

The final release date for Chrome Update will not be confirmed until the preorder is live, but given Topps’ recent track record of Monday preorders dropping 30 days later, that could indicate a release date of Wednesday, Dec. 2. Last year’s version of Topps Chrome Update dropped on Dec. 10, and the 2024 version released on Nov. 13.

Chrome Update will include Chrome versions of the cards in the recently released Topps Update (among others), along with a ton of autograph cards and other big chase cards. But it’s the Debut Patches that have made the release an instant destination for collectors.

Now in their fourth year, the Debut Patch chase features 1/1 autographed cards that include a game-worn debut patch from a player’s first MLB appearance, and it has rapidly become the most popular chase in the hobby. The patches first exploded in 2024, led by the Paul Skenes patch that later sold for $1.1 million. Just last month, the 2024 patch of likely 2026 NL MVP Pete Crow-Armstrong also sold for north of $1 million.

Though the checklist in Topps Chrome Update 2026 is not yet confirmed, Baseball America has compiled the list of 250 names that could be on the Debut Patch list. It might be the most impressive checklist so far, eclipsing even the 2024 class that included Skenes, PCA, Jackson Chourio and Yoshinobu Yamamoto (whose patch still hasn’t been found, by the way).

The 2026 list could include:

  • Rookies who debuted in 2025 just after last year’s checklist cutoff, including Roman Anthony and Jac Caglianone
  • Hot pitchers who debuted late in 2025, including both of this year’s Cy Young favorites: Cam Schlittler and Jacob Misiorowski
  • Top Japanese signees including Munetaka Murakami and Kazuma Okamoto
  • The three players who entered 2026 as Baseball America’s top prospects: Konnor Griffin, Kevin McGonigle and JJ Wetherholt
  • The only player to ever wear a Debut Patch in a postseason game: the Guardians’ Chase DeLauter
  • And Trey Yesavage, Carter Jensen, Colson Montgomery, Chase Burns and lots more

Debut Patches aren’t the only huge chase expected in Chrome Update. Although the full checklist is not expected to drop until closer to preorder day, the release will likely include:

  • Autographs from all of the biggest rookies of 2026, including Kevin McGonigle, Konnor Griffin, Sal Stewart, Cam Schlittler and Jacob Misiorowski, plus dual- and triple-auto chases
  • Popular case hits such as Radiating Rookies, Helix and the super-popular Alter Ego Super Heroes, which made their debut just last year
  • Gold Logo Man chases from last year’s top award winners, including reigning MVPs Shohei Ohtani and Aaron Judge, reigning Cy Young winners Tarik Skubal and Chris Sale and reigning Rookies of the Year Nick Kurtz and Drake Baldwin
  • Some kind of big chase related to an outside cartoon brand, such as the Disney chases in 2025 Topps Chrome Update, the Minion chases in 2026 Topps Chrome or the Sesame Street character chases in Topps soccer products over the summer
  • Possibly a big celebrity auto chase such as the Larry David chase in last year’s Chrome Update
  • And possibly other fun chases marking Topps’ celebration of 75 years of baseball.

The format and pricing of Chrome Update will not be confirmed until the preorder is live, but it is expected to mirror the setup of 2026 Topps Chrome: jumbo boxes featuring two autographs and hobby boxes featuring one autograph, plus megaboxes, value boxes and Breakers Delight boxes.

Be sure to check out Baseball America’s collectibles homepage for a deep dive into the Chrome Update checklist once it is released, including updates to our official 2026 Debut Patch tracker as they are pulled.
