The 2026 FIFA World Cup is approaching a dramatic conclusion.
Quarterfinals got underway on Thursday in Boston, with the first match between Morocco and France. In addition to those two teams six others — Spain, Belgium, England, Norway, Argentina, and Switzerland — are still alive in pursuit of glory.
But by Sunday morning, only four teams will remain.
Here are the teams that have booked a spot in the Semifinals at the 2026 FIFA World Cup. This will be updated as teams advance.
France
France became the first team to advance to the Semifinals with a 2-0 win over Morocco on Thursday in Boston. Kylian Mbappé won a penalty in the first half, but keeper Yassine Bounou guessed right and made the save to keep the match level, and that is how the first half ended with the score 0-0.
But France broke through in the second half, first with a stunning strike from Mbappé:

France now awaits the winner of Friday’s match between Spain and Belgium.
Spain
And that would be Spain.
Spain and Belgium were level for nearly 90 minutes. Fabián Ruiz scored in the 30th minute to give Spain an early lead, but Charles De Ketelaere pulled Belgium level in the 41st minute.
But then just before stoppage time at the end of the second half, super-sub Mikel Merino was the man on the spot for Spain. He pounced on a rebound allowed by backup keeper Senne Lammens — who came in on relief of Thibaut Courtois, who appeared to suffer a knock in the 67th minute — and put Spain ahead:
That goal came days after Merino came on as a substitute and delivered the winning goal against Portugal.
England
Jude Bellingham’s brace saw England through to the Semifinals for the first time since 2018, and just the fourth time in history.
Andreas Schjelderup gave Norway a 1-0 lead late in the first half, but Bellingham’s first goal came moments later to equalize the match. There was some question whether the goal should have counted – as a goal kick from Norway struck the FIFA skycam cable – but a review did not follow.
Then early in extra time, Bellingham’s second gave England the lead:
From there, England held on to book a spot against the winner of Saturday night’s match between Argentina and Switzerland.
Argentina
And that winner? Argentina.
They can’t keep getting away with it, can they?
Alexis Mac Allister gave Argentina an early lead with a goal in the tenth minute, but Switzerland pulled level when Dan Ndoye scored in the 67th minute.
Then, a bit of controversy. Breel Embolo was shown a yellow — his second of the match — following contact with Leandro Paredes. Paredes was initially given a yellow card, but referee Joao Pinheiro went to the monitor, and after a review ruled there was “clear simulation” on Embolo’s part. That resulted in a yellow, and as it was his second of the game, a red.
Down to ten, Switzerland managed to hold on and force extra time. But that is when this laser from Julián Álvarez gave Argentina the lead again:
Lautaro Martínez added an insurance goal minutes later, and Argentina was moving on.
